Gong Du (龚都 gōng dū) was a Yellow Turban remnant leader who operated in Runan Commandery. Around 201-202, he allied with Liu Bei, providing troops for Liu Bei’s resistance against Cao Cao. Gong Du’s forces helped Liu Bei maintain a presence in central China during his wandering years. Little is recorded about his ultimate fate, but his alliance with Liu Bei demonstrated the continuing influence of Yellow Turban networks even decades after the main rebellion was suppressed.
Historical context
Minor warlords and rebel leaders played important roles in the Three Kingdoms period, even if they never achieved the prominence of Cao Cao, Liu Bei, or Sun Quan. They controlled territory, commanded troops, and sometimes allied with major powers. Many were former Yellow Turban rebels who continued resistance after the main rebellion was suppressed.
