Wu Commandery (吳郡) lay in the lower Yangtze region and was one of the principal commanderies of Jiangdong. Its prosperous farmland and waterways supported the rise of the Sun clan.
During the Three Kingdoms period, Wu Commandery was part of the core base of Eastern Wu, supplying officials, troops, and revenue for campaigns along the river and coast.
