Liaodong (遼東) was a commandery in the far north-east, in what is now Liaoning and adjacent areas. After Cao Cao defeated Yuan Shao at Guandu and overran the Yuan base in Ji Province, Yuan Xi and Yuan Shang fled north to Liaodong. Gongsun Kang, who held the region, killed them and sent their heads to Cao Cao to secure his position.
