Xiahou Ba (simplified: 夏侯霸, traditional: 夏侯霸, pinyin: Xiàhóu Bà), courtesy name Zhongquan (仲權), was Xiahou Yuan’s son and Xiahou Dun’s nephew. He served Cao Wei as a general (General Who Protects the Right 右將軍 or Colonel of the Guard 護軍) and was stationed in Longxi. In 249 Sima Yi launched the Gaoping Tombs Coup, executed Cao Shuang, and had many of Cao Shuang’s faction killed—including Xiahou Xuan (夏侯玄), Xiahou Ba’s cousin. Fearing for his life, Xiahou Ba defected to Shu Han. He had a family connection to Shu: his sister had been captured by Zhang Fei and became his wife; their daughter became Liu Shan’s Empress Zhang. Liu Shan received Xiahou Ba warmly and reportedly said that his father (Liu Bei) had married from the wrong branch of the family—meaning the kinship through the Xiahou–Zhang line. Xiahou Ba then served under Jiang Wei in the Northern Expeditions against Wei. His date of death is not clearly recorded.
