Xiakou 夏口

River port on the Yangtze in Jing Province, later known as Wuchang; early base for Sun Quan.

Xiakou (夏口) was a strategic river port in Jing Province, at the point where the Han River meets the Yangtze. In the late Han and early Three Kingdoms period it served as a base for Sun Quan and his forces as they fought to secure the river line.

Sources for the Battle of Red Cliffs and later operations in Jing Province often mention Xiakou as a staging point and defensive position, later linked with the development of Wuchang.
