Yicheng (宜城) was a county in northern Jing Province, close to Xiangyang and the Han River line. Its position gave it value as a staging point between central Jing and the northern front.
As conflicts over Jing Province intensified, control of counties such as Yicheng helped determine movement, supply, and defence in the wider Xiangyang region.
