Yingchuan Commandery (颍川 yǐng chuān) was a wealthy and culturally advanced commandery in present-day Henan Province. It was famous for producing many scholars and officials, particularly during the late Han and Three Kingdoms periods. Notable figures from Yingchuan included Guo Jia, Xun Yu, and Xun You, all of whom served Cao Cao. The commandery’s scholarly tradition made it a key source of administrative talent for Wei.

Administrative context

Commanderies (郡 jùn) were the primary administrative divisions of the Han dynasty, each governed by a Grand Administrator (太守 tàishǒu). During the Three Kingdoms period, commanderies became semi-autonomous under warlord control, though the administrative structure remained largely intact.
