The Battle of Puyang (濮阳之战) took place in 194–195 when Cao Cao fought to recover Yan Province from Lü Bu. After Chen Gong and Zhang Miao had rebelled and welcomed Lü Bu, Cao Cao lost his base. He returned to attack Lü Bu at Puyang. In one engagement Cao Cao was trapped in a burning camp and narrowly escaped; Xiahou Dun was wounded (losing an eye in some accounts). The campaign dragged on; Cao Cao eventually prevailed and drove Lü Bu east into Xu Province, where Lü Bu would later be defeated at the Battle of Xiapi.
