Fufeng (扶風) was a commandery in the Wei River valley in what is now the Baoji region of Shaanxi. It was part of the Guanzhong capital region (Sili/Liang Province). The Ma family were from Fufeng: Ma Teng, his sons Ma Chao, Ma Tie, Ma Xiu, Ma Dai, and Ma Yuan (Ma Chao’s cousin). Ma Teng held power in Liang Province; after his death Ma Chao and Ma Dai eventually joined Liu Bei and served Shu Han.
