Gao Gan (simplified: 高幹, traditional: 高幹, pinyin: Gāo Gàn) was Yuan Shao’s nephew and Inspector (later Governor) of Bing Province (并州). His cousin Gao Rou served under him and accompanied him when he surrendered to Cao Cao after the fall of Ye in 204. The following year, whilst Cao Cao was campaigning north against the Wuhuan, Gao Gan rebelled in Bing Province. He allied with Wei Gu, Fan Xian, and Zhang Sheng in Hedong; Du Ji was appointed Administrator of Hedong and held the line until Cao’s army arrived. Li Dian and Yue Jin besieged Gao Gan at Huguan; Xiahou Yuan and others defeated his forces. Gao Gan fled south towards Jing Province and was killed by a prefect (or by Wang Ze at Shangyong in some accounts). Zhong Yao and Pang De also took part in campaigns against Gao Gan and his allies.
