Lady Zhang (simplified: 張春華, traditional: 張春華, pinyin: Zhāng Chūnhuá), known in the sources as Zhang Chunhua, was Sima Yi’s wife. She was from Pinggao in Henei and was known for her conduct and intelligence. She bore Sima Shi, Sima Zhao, and Sima Gan. Before 208, when Sima Yi feigned illness to avoid serving Cao Cao, a maid saw him gathering books in the rain; fearing exposure, Lady Zhang killed the maid and took over the household tasks. Sima Yi was impressed. In his later years he favoured a concubine, Lady Bai, and slighted Lady Zhang; when she went on hunger strike, their sons joined her, and Sima Yi apologised. She died in 247. When Sima Yan founded the Jin dynasty (266), she was posthumously honoured as Empress Xuanmu (宣穆皇后).
