Mount Dingjun (定军山) was a mountain in the Hanzhong region, overlooking key positions on the approaches between the Wei River valley and the Sichuan Basin. During Liu Bei’s Hanzhong Campaign, Huang Zhong, guided by Fa Zheng’s tactics, attacked the camp of Xiahou Yuan at Mount Dingjun in 219 and killed him. The victory at Dingjunshan broke Cao Cao’s hold on Hanzhong and allowed Liu Bei to secure the region and later proclaim himself King of Hanzhong.
