Shiting 石亭

Battle site on the Wu–Wei frontier where Lu Xun defeated Cao Xiu in 228.

Shiting (石亭) was a battle site on the frontier between Cao Wei and Eastern Wu in the early third century. The exact location is uncertain, but it lay south of the Yangtze in the region of modern Anhui or Jiangxi.

In 228 Cao Xiu advanced with a Wei army, lured by false reports that Wu territory was vulnerable. Lu Xun and other Wu commanders prepared an ambush at Shiting. The resulting Battle of Shiting ended in a major Wu victory; Cao Xiu’s army was routed and he soon died, while Lu Xun’s reputation as Sun Quan’s chief commander was further strengthened.
