Sun Jing (simplified: 孙静, traditional: 孫靜, pinyin: Sūn Jìng), courtesy name Youtai (幼台 Yòutái), was the younger brother of Sun Jian and uncle of Sun Ce and Sun Quan. When Sun Ce was campaigning in Jiangdong, Sun Jing stayed behind to guard the family base in Fuchun and the Wu region. He advised Sun Ce on local strategy and was enfeoffed. His son Sun Jiao became a prominent general under Sun Quan (Colonel of the Guard, then General Who Conquers the Caitiffs at Xiakou). His grandson Sun Jun later became regent and overthrew Zhuge Ke. Sun Jing died at home in the Wu region; the exact year is not clearly recorded.

Biography

Guarding the base

Sun Jing remained in the homeland when Sun Jian and then Sun Ce campaigned elsewhere. He helped secure the family’s position in Wu Commandery and advised Sun Ce when he turned his attention to Jiangdong. After Sun Ce’s death, the territory passed to Sun Quan; Sun Jing’s branch of the family continued to serve, with Sun Jiao holding important military commands.

Legacy

Sun Jing’s line produced two notable figures: Sun Jiao, who replaced Cheng Pu at Xiakou and was close to Zhuge Jin, and Sun Jun, who seized power after Zhuge Ke’s fall and dominated the court under Sun Liang.
