Zhang Song (simplified: 张松, traditional: 張松, pinyin: Zhāng Sōng) was an official under Liu Zhang in Yi Province. He went as envoy to Cao Cao and was received coldly; on his return he met Liu Bei and Fa Zheng and secretly urged Liu Bei to take Yi Province, providing maps and intelligence. When his brother Zhang Su (张肃) reported the plot to Liu Zhang, Zhang Song was executed (212). Liu Zhang then closed the passes; Liu Bei turned on him and eventually took Yi Province. Zhang Song is remembered as the man who opened the way for Liu Bei’s Conquest of Yi Province.
