Donghai (東海) was a commandery of Xu Province on the east coast, in what is now the Lianyungang area of Jiangsu. Haiyu (朐縣) was one of its counties. The Mi family were prominent there: Mi Zhu, Mi Fang, and Lady Mi (who became Liu Bei’s wife) were from Haiyu in Donghai and supported Liu Bei with troops and funds in his early career.
