Guan Shi (simplified: 关氏, traditional: 關氏, pinyin: Guān Shì) was Guan Yu’s daughter. When Sun Quan sought to strengthen the Sun–Liu alliance, he sent an envoy to request Guan Shi in marriage for his son. Guan Yu refused and insulted the envoy (saying his daughter would not marry the son of a ‘mangzi’—cursing Sun Quan). The incident is often cited as one of the causes of the breach between Shu and Wu that led to Sun Quan’s attack on Jing Province and Guan Yu’s capture and execution in 220.
