Lintao (臨洮) was a county in Longxi Commandery, Liang Province, in what is now Lintao County, Gansu. Dong Zhuo was born there. He built a career on the north-western frontier, was summoned to the capital to deal with the eunuchs, and then seized power, deposed Emperor Shao, and installed Emperor Xian before being killed by Lü Bu and Wang Yun.
