Ruyang County (汝陽縣) was a county in Runan Commandery, Yu Province, corresponding to the Ruyang area of Henan. It was the home of the Yuan clan of Runan. Yuan Shao and his kinsman Yuan Shu were from Ruyang, and their family’s long service in high office under the Han court gave them great prestige when they emerged as rival warlords at the end of the dynasty.
