Biography

Administrator of Danyang and assassination

Sun Yi was appointed Administrator of Danyang. He was hot-tempered and resembled Sun Ce in character. His subordinates Bian Hong and Dai Yuan (戴員) had grudges; they conspired with the former Administrator’s men and killed Sun Yi at a gathering. Sun Yi’s wife Lady Xu pretended to cooperate with the plotters, then had a clansman and her servants kill them. Sun Quan then put down the rest of the rebellion.

Legacy

Sun Yi is remembered as one of Sun Quan’s brothers who held a key command and as the victim of a plot that his widow helped avenge. His inclusion in Sun Deng’s list of loyal officials reflects his standing before his death.
