Wang Ling (simplified: 王凌, traditional: 王凌, pinyin: Wáng Líng), courtesy name Yanyun (彥雲), was a Cao Wei general and nephew of Wang Yun. He served as Administrator of Yuzhang, Governor of Yan Province (揚州), General Who Pacifies the East, and Grand Commandant (太尉). He was stationed at Shouchun (壽春). In 251, after Sima Yi’s Gaoping Tombs Coup had removed Cao Shuang, Wang Ling plotted with his subordinate Ling Hu Yu to replace Cao Fang with Cao Biao (Prince of Chu) and rebel against Sima Yi. The plot was discovered; Sima Yi led troops south. Wang Ling surrendered and was given poison on the way to Luoyang (at Gongqiu). His family and associates were executed. Cao Biao was also ordered to commit suicide. Wang Ling’s rebellion was the last major challenge to Sima control during Sima Yi’s lifetime. In 241 he had fought Quan Cong at Quebei (芍陂).
