The Western Jin (西晋) is the name given to the Jin dynasty from its founding in 266 until the fall of the north in 316. Sima Yan received the abdication of Cao Huan and established Jin; in 280 Jin forces conquered Eastern Wu, reunifying China. The Western Jin court remained at Luoyang. In the early fourth century, internal strife and invasions led to the loss of the north; the Jin court moved south and the period of the Eastern Jin (317–420) began. For the Three Kingdoms wiki, the Western Jin is the immediate successor to Cao Wei and the state that ended the tripartite division.
