Dantu (丹徒) was a county in Wu Commandery, Yang Province, on the south bank of the lower Yangtze in what is now the Zhenjiang area of Jiangsu.
In 200 Sun Ce was hunting near Dantu when he was ambushed by retainers of Xu Gong (許貢), a former Wu administrator whom Sun Ce had had killed. Sun Ce was struck in the face and died of his wounds shortly afterwards, leaving the Jiangdong territories to his brother Sun Quan. Dantu thus became a key site in the succession from Sun Ce to Sun Quan.
