Ping’a (平阿) was a county in Chu State, in Yang Province, located north of modern Huai’an in Anhui. Jiang Ji was born there. He began as a local official and went on to serve Cao Cao and the state of Cao Wei, eventually becoming Grand Commandant (太尉) and taking part in the 249 coup alongside Sima Yi.
