Xiahou Mao (simplified: 夏侯楙, traditional: 夏侯楙, pinyin: Xiàhóu Máo), courtesy name Zilin (子林), was Xiahou Dun’s son. He married Cao Cao’s daughter Princess Qinghe (清河公主) and was favoured by Cao Pi and Cao Rui. He was appointed General Who Pacifies the West (安西將軍) and put in charge of the western frontier against Shu. When Zhuge Liang launched his Northern Expeditions, Xiahou Mao was criticised for lack of military ability; the Wei Lue records that he cared more for concubines and had poor relations with his wife. After defeats or poor performance (sources differ), Cao Rui recalled him and replaced him with more capable commanders. His later fate is not clearly recorded.
