Bu Lian Shi (simplified: 步练师, traditional: 步練師, pinyin: Bù Liànshī) was Sun Quan’s favourite consort and a relative of the chancellor Bu Zhi. She was from Huaiyin in Linhuai. When Sun Ce conquered Lujiang (199), she moved to Jiangdong and became Sun Quan’s favoured concubine. She bore him two daughters, Sun Luban and Sun Luyu. She was known for being accepting of Sun Quan’s other wives and even recommended women to him. When Sun Quan declared himself emperor (229), he wished to make her empress, but officials nominated Lady Xu instead; neither was installed empress in life. Bu Lian Shi died in 238 and was posthumously honoured as empress (24 November 238).
