He Jin (simplified: 何进, traditional: 何進, pinyin: Hé Jìn), courtesy name Suigao (遂高), was the General-in-Chief (大将军) of the Eastern Han and brother of Empress He. After Emperor Ling’s death (189) he and Yuan Shao planned to eliminate the eunuchs. The eunuchs lured him into the palace and killed him. Yuan Shao and others then stormed the palace and massacred the eunuchs; Dong Zhuo entered the capital in the chaos. He Jin’s death is often seen as the point at which the Han lost control of the capital. Zheng Xuan refused office under He Jin.
