Xu Gong (simplified: 许贡, traditional: 許貢, pinyin: Xǔ Gòng) was Commandant and later Administrator of Wu Commandery (吳郡). He and Wang Lang had long been friends with Xu Jing and protected him after Chen Yi’s death. Zhu Zhi defeated Xu Gong at Youquan (由拳) when advancing on Wu; Xu Gong fled south and joined the bandit Yan Baihu. When Sun Ce had pacified Jiangdong, he executed Xu Gong for suspected treason. In 200, former followers of Xu Gong ambushed Sun Ce at Dantu and wounded him; Sun Ce died of the injury. Xu Gong is thus remembered as indirectly responsible for the end of Sun Ce’s career.
