Zhang Yang (simplified: 张杨, traditional: 張楊, pinyin: Zhāng Yáng) was Governor of Henei (河內). After Lü Bu fled Chang’an in 192, he took refuge with Zhang Yang in Henei. Cao Cao sent envoys to Zhang Yang seeking to have Lü Bu killed; Zhang Yang’s officers were inclined to comply, but after Dong Zhao persuaded Zhang Yang of the value of keeping Cao Cao’s friendship, Zhang Yang allowed Dong Zhao to return Cao Cao’s seal and ribbon to the court and helped Cao Cao communicate with the capital. Dong Zhao served under Zhang Yang. In 199 Zhang Yang was killed by his subordinate Yang Chou (楊醜). Shi Huan was then sent to persuade Zhang Yang’s former subordinates Xue Hong and Miao Shang to submit.
